Hello everyone!

Over the last few days I’ve been seeing more and more people discussing AdBlock and trying to encourage others to use it as well, I’ll be honest I’m not 100% against the software however some use it to it’s fullest capabilities and this is affecting people like myself…

Firstly you need to understand what AdBlock is, as well as what it does!

AdBlock is a “content filtering” and “ad blocking” extension which allows users to prevent page elements, such as advertisements, from being displayed and whilst this has no imediate affect on the users it can and does have a huge affect on content creators that depend on the revinue created from the ads being displayed.

Ad-block technology stops almost all ads a person might otherwise see. Search ads, banner ads, remarketing, pre-roll, YouTube ads, social posts and even some “native” ads are all covered. When loading a page, AdBlock looks at from where content is being called and uses that information to infer what is or is not an ad.

In response, some websites now have AdBlock walls. Upon arrival, AdBlock users are requested to enable ads by putting the site on a whitelist of which apparently 40 percent of users agreed.

Eventually we will find that browser developers will wage a ware against Ad Blocking software and I wouldn’t be suprised to see updates being made to break software intended to block adverts being displayed at some stage in the future.

What am I doing about it?

I completely understand why people choose to use Ad Blocking software which is why I only use Google Adsense and routinely check ad types, though ads that are displayed are controlled by a virtual cookie that Google use to display relevent ads to you adn not the website as a whole, so individual visitors to my website will see ads of different types.

I am also adding a plugin that will detect if a user is blocking adverts from my website and will simply ask to consider whitelisting my website, it is completely your choice if you do so or not though it is greatly appreciated if you do.

As always thanks for reading, I’ll be back with more very soon!!

Kev.
